I trust everyone has had a fantastic Thanksgiving! I hope you had a great meal and took the time to relax.

I want to address something that is very near and dear to my heart.  I am a huge proponent of  vitamin supplementation.  I have heard many patients fear that when they take vitamins the urine becomes the most expensive urine in the world.  While there are certain changes in your urine when you take vitamins, there is a strong benefit.  When your bladder is full of vitamins, there is a true cancer preventive benefit to vitamins.  There was a study that was published in The American Journal of Epidemiology proved the following:

  • A high intake of Vitamin A and beta-carotene dropped the risk of bladder cancer by 48% compared to a lower intake of these vitamins
  • A higher intake of Vitamin C had a 50% reduction in bladder cancer.  Those who actually took over 502 mg of Vitamin C a day had a 60% reduction of bladder cancer in comparison to those who took no Vitamin C
  • People who took multivitamin supplements for 10 years or longer had a 61% decrease in bladder cancer compared to those who took no vitamin supplement.
  • Those people who took in a high amount of fried foods had a100% increase in bladder cancer in comparison to those that did not eat fried foods regularly.

The proof is there. You might have a very expensive urine because of the rapid excretion of some of the vitamins but there is certainly a major benefit to their consumption.

To your Health,
