Hi Everyone,
Currently, we are taught in society that prevention of disease can be accomplished through routine health check-ups. While that may be prevention in the past, it is time to realize this is ONLY early detection.
There is a huge difference between disease prevention and early detection. There is no doubt that early detection has saved millions upon millions of lives. I don't want to discredit early detection. However, I do want to draw a distinction between this and true prevention. Prevention is stopping the initiation of the disease prior to the starting of the disease. Early detection is finding the disease in its earliest stages, thereby maximizing the chances to cure the disease.
There have been numerous studies that prove that eating a diet rich in nutrient dense fruits and vegetables is actually preventive to the development of prostate cancer. Yes, men do need to regularly have their prostate glands checked by a qualified health care provider. However, doesn't it make sense to prevent the disease in the first place so that we don’t have to be dependent on early detection to save lives? In the current environment of health care reform, I don’t think any of us know where this is headed. Let’s hope for the best but plan for the worst. It is time to take charge of your health.
Also, there are three huge epidemics in our American society that are all linked to lack of prevention and knowledge.
- Too much insulin — Pre-Diabetes
- Too much cortisol — Stress
- Too little thyroid — Poor nutrition
Not everyone suffers from the big three but we are certainly seeing more and more disease related to these hormonal imbalances. All of these systems are truly connected together. When one of these systems is out of balance, there is a fundamental breakdown in our sense of Wellness and our ability to maintain our Health.
In future “Daily Doses” I will expound on my thoughts of the hormonal trio described above. Until then, read what you can and learn what you must. It is a matter of Life and Wellness.
