We all know that deliberate and intentional movement of our
bodies, also known as exercise, is a core component to our overall
health. Everyone of us can change our habits so that we can experience
a better sense of health and an overall improvement in our well-being.
Most of us start off with the best of intentions and then life creeps
back in and there goes our best intentions. Usually, we replace that
time slot for something else and before you know it, we just don't have
time! Has this happened to anyone else besides me? Sure it has!
The decision that we make for our health, should become permanent.
Unless it becomes a part of who we are, there is only a temporary
change.
There is a significant difference between "should" and "must". If
you should do something, it becomes, in a sense, optional. If you
"must" do something, then you have to get it done. I would invite you
to consider your health and well-being essential. In large part,
exercise or body movement becomes a must.
Our future is shaped by the moment to moment decisions that we
make. You can impact your health by giving yourself an extra 10 minutes
each morning for some deliberate movement of your body. You will see
your health improve in a short order. I am busy. You are busy. That is
a given. However, anybody and everyone has an extra 10 minutes. It is a
MUST and not a SHOULD.
In reality, the best time to do your exercises is in the morning.
During this time of the day, you are able to jump start your body and
get your engines revved up. Make that commitment for the next week,
then increase it to two, and you will then develop a habit. You have
to have commitment and you have to have enthusiasm. You have to
understand deep in your heart that your health improvement is a MUST
and not a SHOULD. You should also ask for support from your spouse and
kids. I have seen a lot of nay sayers over the years when a loved
family member makes a move towards health. For many reasons, those
around us will hinder our weight loss efforts. It is not to be negative
or mean, it is just simply inconvenient for them. Remember, as I have
said, before, it is often difficult for others to recognize their own
health inadequacies and when we begin a new journey of health and
wellness, it puts a sense of pressure on them. That's okay, they MUST
improve their health too.
60-75 percent of our metabolism comes from our muscle mass. That
being said, to lose weight, it is much more important to increase the
size and amount of muscle in our bodies. We do accomplish that by
strength training. I am not inviting you to go join the gym or hire a
personal trainer. However, I am saying give yourself 10 minutes in the
morning, get up early, drop another routine, whatever it takes to
increase the tone of your body.
Items that you will need are really simple. You will need a chair
and a set of weights. In reality, this can be household goods such as
a can of beans, a bag of rice, or you can go fancy and actually get a
set of dumbbells. Over the next few days, I am going to discuss some
simple exercises that you can do to increase your body's metabolism,
increase your tone and strength, and improve your health!
