Remember yesterday when we introduced the term Diabesity? Okay, now I am going to finish the story. The ACCORD study showed that the diabetics that had too tight of sugar control had an increased risk of death. How is this really possible?
The reason is the elevated blood sugar is really just a symptom of the disease process. It is not the real cause of the disease process. Let me explain. The real reason for the elevated blood sugar is because the real regulatory mechanism of blood sugar, the insulin, is too high. Yeah, you read right. It is too high. If you look back at the Daily Dose from yesterday, you will see the diagram that illustrates the spike in insulin that occurs way before the fasting blood sugar increases. This is very important to understand.
When we eat a high carbohydrate diet, we will naturally boost our insulin in a means to protect ourselves from too high of a blood sugar. Pasta, bread, rice, and most other carbohydrates can be 1/4 to 1/2 cup of sugar per serving. Wow! I was actually shocked myself when I learned this information. Your body will quickly break down the complex refined carbohydrate and make it a simple glucose molecule that rapidly elevates your blood sugar. Over time, your insulin level rapidly rises and if exposed to carbohydrates often, will remain elevated. This is the elevated fasting insulin. It is this elevated fasting insulin that causes significant damage long before you see an increase in blood sugar.
As your insulin increases, you will get rapid aging, an out of control appetite, fatigue, weight gain around the belly, inflammation, and oxidative stress (rust). The manifestations of all these problems becomes hypertension, high cholesterol, low HDL, weight gain, fatigue, blood clots, cancer, premature dementia, loss of limbs, and depression. All of these are just symptoms. They are not the cause. Does it not make sense to treat the cause instead of the symptom. Treating the symptom is like the tail wagging the dog, right?
Again, please keep in mind that elevated blood sugar is a late manifestation of the disease. Instead of answering the question of "What is the problem?" you should ask "Why do I have this problem?" It is only then that we can solve the real disease. Please, look to the cause and not just the symptom. You are able to correct the disease before it happens if you understand the disease. It really is a time line disease. It starts with carbohydrates and it ends with insulin dependent diabetes over the course of time. Would it not be better to "cut it off" at the root? My grandma always said, "get that weed by the root or it will come back!" You know grandma is always right!

Doctor's Supplements
Research proves that we do not have all of the essential minerals and vitamins in our food. In fact, we are no longer eating our "designed" diet. As Hunters and Gatherers, we are now only hunting at the grocery store. We consume tons of garbage a year and expect our bodies to operate just fine. I ask you this question: "What is the difference between food and medicine?' If I gave you a cheeseburger straight out of the bag, you most likely would eat it. However, if I handed you 5 pills, even from me, most likely you would not take them! Food is medicine!
Do you ever experience side effects from medicine? Sure, it is possible. Have you ever thought that maybe the reason you don't feel well is because you don't eat well. Would you expect your car to run great if you put in bad gas? Of course not! Then why, might I ask, do you expect "your engine" to run great? It really is kind of silly, isn't it?
